Christmas 2007

Christmas 2007

We are just one big happy family.  My husband, Larry, works very hard at his computer techy, fixing the thingamabog job to provide for us.  OK, I don’t exactly know what it is that Larry does at work all day long.  But I know that if I have a true laptop emergency (like the time I lost my cursor entirely and couldn’t bring it back regardless of what I did) I can always call his cell phone and he will walk me through the steps necessary to ensure that I don’t have Internet withdrawals until he arrives home from work.  Larry is a wonderful husband, an awesome dad, and is possibly the nicest man I have ever known.  Don’t tell him I said that though…wouldn’t want to interfere with the macho image.  Especially since Larry is quite possibly one of the physically strongest men I have ever known.  Larry worked construction for the first 11 years or so of our marriage, and still has the brawn and the biceps to prove it.

I am Anji.  I am a stay at home mom.  I haven’t always been.  I used to get up every morning and go to work and actually interact with adults on an intellectual level.  Now however, I stay at home and interact with our 4 kids, the cat, and the 20 chickens.  Not much intellect involved most days…but I wouldn’t change it!  I love being at home, and our entire family is just so much….better because I am now at home.  I have sat through the well-meaning “lectures” of friends who wonder at me “wasting” my talents at home.  But let me just say that my negotiating skills have received quite the workout this summer.  As well as my organizational skills.  And conflict-resolution skills.  And budgeting skills.  And leadership skills.  Heck, I could probably step into the CEO position of a Fortune 500 company tomorrow and bring immediate improvements to the place!!

Sarah is almost 16.  She is our firstborn child, and our only daughter.  Sarah is a great kid, who is currently earning money for her first car by babysitting her 2 younger cousins this summer.  She is having a great time and is loving being financially independent.  Sarah enjoys reading, writing poetry, and drama.  She can’t wait for school to start so that fall play tryouts will be that much closer!  Sarah also volunteers in our church’s AWANAS program, Vacation Bible School and anything else she can get into.  She is a good kid, and we are incredibly proud of her.

Jacob is almost 15, and is our firstborn son.  He will be a freshman in High School this year.  I can’t believe it.  He plays football.  He enjoys football.  He dreams about football.  He talks about football.  And since I can’t even begin to grasp the rules of football…he and I don’t “bond” over this football obsession.  But, Jacob loves it, and I am coming the realization that this is probably not just a passing phase…since he has been playing for 3 years now.  Jacob also volunteers in our church’s AWANAS program, and Vacation Bible School.  He is a good kid, and we are incredibly proud of him.

Jonah is 11, and is our second born son.  Jonah has Down syndrome, as well as a multitude of medical diagnoses.  Jonah has had many, many surgeries in his lifetime, including three open heart, five airway, and many others.  Jonah doesn’t speak well, but uses sign language to communicate.  He will be getting his brand new hearing aides in a few weeks.  We are excited that this could help his speech production.  Jonah loves to feed our chickens, swim in the pool, swing on his swingset, ride his bike, and watch his TV.  His current favorites are Bob the Builder, Blue’s Clue’s and Rugrats.  He is a great kid, and we are incredibly proud of him.

Levi just turned 8.  He is our “baby”.  Levi enjoys being the baby of the family.  And he is really, really good at it.  I’m still learning exactly who this child is, and his personality is in a huge state of change right now.  He is changing from a child into an “older” child.  And he has lots of role models in this house.  It’s neat to watch this transition…and a bit sad to know that it will be the last time that I get to witness this period of growth in one of my children.  Levi is a handful most of the time….and has been accused, on more than one occasion and by more than one person, of talking and not being able to shut up!  I swear, this kid talks just to hear the sound.  It doesn’t matter if anyone is listening or not…Levi’s vocal chords are getting a work out from the moment his feet hit the floor in the morning till his head hits the pillow at night.  He keeps me very, very busy.  He is a great kid, and we are incredibly proud of him.

This blog is about our family.  We have no claim to fame…we don’t claim any extraordinary contribution to society.  We are just here…living our lives, learning, laughing, loving, and growing every day.  And we invite you to join us on this journey!

Anji–I follow Sarah’s blog, and was brought here by a plug she gave you. I hope to read more soon, and will be back to visit. You’ve raised an amazing daughter–it’s evident by what she posts on her blog, and it’s plain to see that you have a wonderful family.
